Cotswold District Council has announced that it will be providing free entry to its car parks to tie in with several Christmas events across the Cotswolds.
Details are as follows:
Bourton-on-the-Water: Free parking after 3pm on Saturday 6 December – annual Victorian shopping evening (please note, however, that the local Rotary club will charge £3 parking fee which is donated to local charities.)
Cirencester: Free parking after 2 pm on Saturday 29 November – Christmas lights switch-on and Advent market
Moreton-in-Marsh: Free parking all day Saturday 29 November – Christmas lights switch-on and Advent market.
Stow-on-the-Wold: Free parking all day Saturday 29 November – Christmas tree festival
Tetbury: Free parking after 4pm Thursday 4 December, Christmas lights switch-on and Advent market.
CDC officers will place signs at car parks, informing motorists about the free parking offers.
Commenting on this initiative, Cllr Chris Hancock, CDC Cabinet Member for Enterprise and Partnerships, said: “We hope that suspending charges to coincide with Christmas light launches and other festive events will ease the financial burden on families who plan to use their cars to get there. These concessions should also help to boost trade in local shops.
“We have already promised to allow motorists to park for free in our car parks on Monday and Tuesday afternoons during January and February 2015. This is on a trial basis and follows a Council decision earlier this year to set aside a fund of £25,000 for incentives to attract more motorists to the Cotswolds during traditionally quiet trading periods.”
