Garage Wanted

Does anyone have, or know of, a dry, secure garage nearby that I could rent, in which to keep a classic car? The car would be taken out only in fair weather, so minimal coming and going. And no restoration work or anything like that – purely a roof over its head.

If so, I’d be extremely grateful – and happy!

Please contact Nick Darke: 01453 861062 (The Coach House, Ashcroft, Kingscote). Thank you.

Free parking for Christmas launch events

Cotswold District Council will be waiving parking charges temporarily to support the launch of festive celebrations at several local market towns.

Christmas shoppers will be able to enjoy free parking to attend Christmas lights switch-ons and celebratory events in line with the following arrangements:

Saturday 26 November

Moreton-in-Marsh: free parking all day at Old Market Way car park.

Cirencester: free parking after 3 pm at all CDC car parks in town.

Thursday 1 December to Saturday 3 December

Tetbury: All Car Parks in Tetbury will be free of charge from 4pm on the 1 December until 6pm on Saturday the 3 December. (NOTE: Sunday is normally free parking, therefore parking will be free in Tetbury from 4pm on the 1st until 8am on 5th).

Friday 2 December

Chipping Campden: free all day at Market Square

Bourton-on-the-Water: free parking after 3 pm at Rissington Rd car park (donations to local charities will be accepted on the day).

Friday 9 December

Stow-on-the-Wold: free parking from 3 pm at Maugersbury Rd car park.

Cllr Chris Hancock, CDC Cabinet Member for Enterprise and Partnerships, said:

“Waiving charges for Christmas light switch-ons and other festive events should save money for the many families across the District who plan to travel by car to enjoy one of more of these spectacles.  We also hope that it will encourage people to arrive earlier and boost trade in local shops.

“We are already operating a ‘free after 3pm’ scheme every day at the Brewery and Forum car parks in Cirencester, and Christmas shoppers can also benefit from free parking on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays at the Council’s Trinity Road headquarters (GL7 1PX) and also at the St James’s Place offices (GL7 1FP).”

Changes to recycling banks coming soon

There will soon be some changes to the provision of recycling ‘bring’ sites across Cotswold District, reducing the number of glass recycling banks while increasing recycling facilities for the recycling of textiles and ‘Tetrapak’ cartons.

Glass recycling banks will only be retained at locations which have a full range of recycling banks.

This should have a very limited effect on residents as glass is one of the items that can be recycled through the fortnightly kerbside collection service. Glass bottles and jars can be left out alongside papers, cans and tins in the kerbside recycling box, mixed plastics (plastic bottles, pots tubs and trays) in the white reusable sack and cardboard in the blue reusable sack.

We are increasing the number of banks for textiles and cartons as it is not possible to recycle these at the kerbside. Textile recycling banks will be included at all recycling points (space permitting).  Carton (‘Tetrapak’) recycling banks will be available at three key locations across the District initially so that we can assess their effectiveness before considering additional banks as they cost the Council about £1,000 a year to operate.

To explore innovative packaging solutions that align with these sustainability goals, visit www.eliter-packaging.com. As the District assesses the effectiveness of these changes, further expansion of carton recycling banks will be explored, reinforcing the community’s proactive engagement in waste reduction and responsible packaging practices.

What happens next?

In the next two weeks the Council will display posters on the glass recycling banks which are scheduled for withdrawal. The actual removals will take place from the week commencing 5 December.

Once the glass banks have been taken away, the new textile and/or carton banks will be installed – for full details of locations please see the Notes below.

Cllr Sue Coakley, CDC Cabinet Member for Environment, believes that these changes will be welcomed:

“We have consulted Members and the affected Parishes and have received a favourable response to the proposed changes.  We believe that the increase in the number of textile and Tetrapak recycling facilities will satisfy a growing demand to recycle these products while removing the glass recycling banks should not have a major impact on our recycling totals.

“I would remind residents that most glass recyclable items can be left at the kerbside to be picked up by our regular recycling collection service.”

For further information about recycling, please visit the relevant CDC website or the Recycle for Gloucestershire website.
