High Speed Broadband in Kingscote

High Speed Broadband in Kingscote & Bagpath

High Speed Broadband has become an essential utility for homes and businesses throughout the UK. However, there remain pockets, such as Kingscote & Bagpath, where Openreach/BT will not provide a service, and Fastershire reports that they are currently searching for a supplier to deliver in our area, but have given no commitment. Meanwhile, we remain unable to access the best internet services, and are left with poor quality broadband which is inadequate for most users and, in fact, forces some residents to work in other better connected locations rather than at home.

Dan Howdle, telecoms spokesman at Cable.co.uk, said: “Digital inequality is a huge problem in the UK, both for those who suffer at the bottom end and for the UK economy as a whole. Digital black holes, unless addressed, will suffer steady economic decline as homes become less desirable, and businesses can no longer sustain themselves without an online presence.”

As a result of this, in the past 24 months Voneus has worked with Kingscote & Bagpath residents trialling satellite broadband with limited success, but has now developed an expertise in alternative forms of superfast broadband suitable for hard to reach rural areas. Voneus has had notable success with superfast broadband in Miserden (Gloucestershire) and Dunton (Bedfordshire) and is now in a position to roll this out to Kingscote and Bagpath and has received support for the scheme from the Parish Council.

Voneus is now a recognised partner for delivering Superfast Broadband by BDUK: http://www.fastershire.com/about-fastershire/better-broadband-scheme/providers

Warm Clothes for Refugees

A colleague of mine at Wycliffe College is collecting warm clothes to take to Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. The refugees who are stranded and trapped there are freezing. My colleague is flying over to represent Refugee Aid Stroud as a volunteer and fundraiser and has booked 40 kilos of extra luggage. Anything you can offer that is warm for all ages and can be easily transported would be welcome.

You can drop anything that you have which might be of use for those poor people to me at No11 Kingscote. or give me a call or text on 07811922926 or email me at Shazzerator@gmail.com

Thanks in advance!

Sharon

Get Ready for Winter

Are you ready for winter?

http://www.cotswold.gov.uk/media/660362/Adverse-weather.jpgThe recent freezing temperatures across the District have reminded us all that we need to take extra care now that winter is here.

With this in mind, the Council is promoting a ‘Get ready for Winter’ page on its website which provides help and advice about preparing for winter and bad weather including, driving, school closures, possible disruptions to waste collections, flooding and snow.
